Massage Therapy

All Orillia Sports Medicine Massage Therapists are registered practitioners. Massage therapy enhances the performance of the circulatory, lymphatic, muscular, skeletal, and nervous systems, potentially accelerating recovery from injury and illness. The technique includes manipulating soft tissues, applying pressure, and inducing movement within the body. Therapeutic massage specifically targets the soft tissue structures to prevent and relieve pain, discomfort, muscle spasms, and stress, promoting overall health and wellness.

How Will I Feel After a Massage Session?

Most people find themselves feeling extremely relaxed after a massage. Many report relief from longstanding discomfort caused by tension or repetitive movements. Initially, you might feel a bit slowed down, but this is often followed by a surge of increased energy, enhanced awareness, and improved productivity that can persist for several days. It’s common to experience some discomfort post-massage. To alleviate muscle pain and boost circulation, which aids in healing, an Epsom salt bath after your massage is beneficial. The magnesium in Epsom salt helps relieve stress and facilitates the flushing of toxins and heavy metals from the body. Most often you feel relaxed and rejuvenated!

Hot Stone Massage

What is Hot Stone Massage?

Hot stone massage is a form of massage therapy that uses specialized stones, which hold heat, helping to create a deep tissue massage to work tight, knotted muscles and release tension. Hot stone massage is relaxing and is known to have some health benefits.

While the client lies on his/her stomach on the massage table, the therapist places the hot stones on the back (on top of a towel), leaving them on either side of the spinal column on acupuncture points. This warms the skin and surrounding muscles to help release tension and increase blood flow. Smaller stones with oil are used to massage the person's muscles and tissues instead of using the hands. The therapist will use other shaped stones to apply pressure to tense areas and to knead the back, legs, feet, arms and sometimes the face.

Increase the Benefits with Frequent Visits

Getting a massage can do you a world of good. And getting massage frequently can do even more. This is the beauty of bodywork. Taking part in this form of regularly scheduled self-care can play a huge part in how healthy you’ll be and how youthful you’ll remain with each passing year. Budgeting time and money for bodywork at consistent intervals is truly an investment in your health. And remember: just because massage feels like a pampering treat doesn’t mean it is any less therapeutic. Consider massage appointments a necessary piece of your health and wellness plan, and work with your practitioner to establish a treatment schedule that best meets your needs.

Appointments can be made without a referral. Services are generally covered through private extended health care plans (a physician's referral may be required). Motor vehicle insurance covers massage treatments although prior approval is necessary.
