Claire Towns, B.A.Sc.(Hons), IOC Diploma in Sports Nutrition, RD

Registered Dietitian

Claire Towns is a Registered Dietitian with a passion for sports and performance nutrition. Claire is a graduate of the Applied Human Nutrition honours program at the University of Guelph and the Northern Ontario Dietetic Internship Program at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. She has a background as a clinical dietitian in diabetes management working with a wide range of clients. Claire's enthusiasm for fitness and sport is evident in her love of rowing as both a youth and adult coach and rower, having competed at RowOntario Championships and the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.

Claire is a graduate of the International Olympic Committee's Diploma in Sports Nutrition and incorporates the latest research and scientific principles relevant to a client's needs. Nutritional counselling topics include the physiology of sports, nutritional assessment of athletes, weight loss and weight management, post-exercise recovery, nutritional strategies before and during competition, iron depletion, micronutrient needs, gastrointestinal issues, supplements and sports foods, requirements for specific athletic populations (children, vegetarians and masters athletes) and considerations in different environmental conditions (travel, cold and hot climates).

Sports nutrition counselling offers clients practical evidence-based strategies to help busy professionals, athletes, and active individuals make simple dietary changes to improve their health and performance.
